In November 2017, during her state visit to India, Queen Mathilde visited Fusion Microfinance, an Indian microfinancing institution with which BRS works. She had a conversation with three women who were able to build a business thanks to microcredit.
The Queen was extremely impressed by the stories of the women entrepreneurs, who have businesses selling clothes, carpets and footballs. Thanks to the success of their businesses, they can send their children to school so that those children also have a better chance of a bright future. Financial success also helps with their emancipation, still not a given in India.
The Queen’s visit was the crowning glory to their hard work and a great opportunity to highlight the importance of microfinance.
