BRS in Belgium

BRS looks to the South, but we are also active in Belgium. Informing people and getting them interested in microfinancing is an important pillar of our operations. Training courses, info sessions and BRS evenings: we bring the story of the South to Belgium in a great many different ways.

Strong women at Zuidgebreid

A large part of the clientele of the microfinancing institutions with which BRS works consists of women. On 8 May 2015, the Zuidgebreid event that BRS regularly organises thus revolved around the theme of “Strong women”.

A taste for Honduran coffee

René Banegas, CEO of the Honduran microfinance organisation Pilarh was in Belgium to discuss banking matters at BRS. In between we visited the Brésor coffee-roasting house of Paul van Himst, where coffee beans from coffee farmers who are Pilarh customers are roasted.

Management training sessions

BRS offers training sessions and coaching in the South, but we also regularly invite managers from the microfinancing institutions with which we work to our offices for intensive training sessions on various specific topics. Among them, the delegations from El Salvador and Honduras.

Deep roots, wide branches

At Jozef Vounckplein you can admire a beautiful mosaic. This is the work of José Osorio, a Honduran artist who started his business in 2007 with a microcredit from Pilarh, which with BRS works. In 2017, he and his partner Katty flew to Belgium to create the artwork, together with a hundred volunteers.

It's not about big money

It’s not about big money. The song that Jean Bosco Safari wrote for BRS has in the meantime become a firm favourite among everyone who is a supporter of BRS. Click the link to enjoy his performance at Zuidgebreid, where everyone was able to take part.

BRS-ambassadors on a promotional tour

We can count on our enthusiastic BRS ambassadors from Cera for the activities in Belgium.

  • They help with the organisation and development of BRS activities.
  • They act as ambassadors and guest speakers on behalf of our organisation.
  • They inform our supporters in Belgium about the activities of our partners in the South.
  • Five ambassadors are members of our Board of Directors.
