BRS looks to the South, but we are also active in Belgium. Informing people and getting them interested in microfinancing is an important pillar of our operations. Training courses, info sessions and BRS evenings: we bring the story of the South to Belgium in a great many different ways.

A large part of the clientele of the microfinancing institutions with which BRS works consists of women. On 8 May 2015, the Zuidgebreid event that BRS regularly organises thus revolved around the theme of “Strong women”.
René Banegas, CEO of the Honduran microfinance organisation Pilarh was in Belgium to discuss banking matters at BRS. In between we visited the Brésor coffee-roasting house of Paul van Himst, where coffee beans from coffee farmers who are Pilarh customers are roasted.

BRS offers training sessions and coaching in the South, but we also regularly invite managers from the microfinancing institutions with which we work to our offices for intensive training sessions on various specific topics. Among them, the delegations from El Salvador and Honduras.
At Jozef Vounckplein you can admire a beautiful mosaic. This is the work of José Osorio, a Honduran artist who started his business in 2007 with a microcredit from Pilarh, which with BRS works. In 2017, he and his partner Katty flew to Belgium to create the artwork, together with a hundred volunteers.
