El Salvador

Violence is a daily reality in this Central American country, which groaned under a 12-year civil war in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently, it is mainly gangs (youth gangs among others) that cause unrest. This weighs heavily on the economy. Many young people cannot go to school and seek refuge abroad.

Traditional gender roles stand between women and their development (including economic development). Yet there are enterprising people who want to turn the tide and put positive things into the world. Our partners in El Salvador are strongly focused on young people and want to offer them an alternative to the criminal circuit. Women are also supported and encouraged to build a sustainable future.

Study trip to Honduras and El Salvador

In 2017, a delegation from Cera and KBC joined BRS on an immersion trip to Honduras and El Salvador. The purpose? To get to know the world of microfinancing and a number of BRS projects and partners at close quarters. This video gives you a picture of the journey.
